ATLAS y HÉRCULES

Zaragoza, abril 2005

ATLAS AND HERCULES

Hercules started what was his eleventh entreprise. He went looking  for the Hesperides´ golden apples for which Atlas had to help him. He slept the dragon that guarded the fruit and lifted the world up on his back while Atlas collected the apples, hidden by the firmament, to give them to Hercules.

I read this story in one of so many pages dedicated to greek mythology.

“After Hercules took the oxen that were guarded night and day by a sevenheaded dog started what was his eleventh work. He went looking for the Hesperides´golden apples, for which Atlas, father or uncle of theirs, depending on the different versions, had to help him. Hercules managed to lull the protective dragon that guarded the fruit and never slept. Once this was achieved, he lifted the world up on his back while Atlas picked the apples under him. However, Hercules observed surprised how Atlas didn´t show the slightest intention of accupying his place again, what worried our hero. Then, Hercules told Atlas to take the firmament jus for a moment while he adapted a pillow on his back, Doing that, Atlas released the apples and Hercules caught them and disappeared from there making the giant´s attempts fail to make up for his heavy duty”.

I´ll tell you how I see it:
Hercules was entrusted to pick the Hesperides´apples up.

To get them he needed Atlas´help. Each one would work in equal shares and the benefit would be included in the same action. Everything developed perfectly and the goal was achieved, but something attracted my attention.

In the final part, the most delicate, when transferring his load to Hercules, Atlas looked down and discovered the apples… and himself. For the first time he saw himself without a load and with a treasure in his hands. Gold in his hands. His own image in his hands. That heavy roundness that kept him humiliated, hid another aspect of which now he was the absolute owner… although just for a moment. How not to understand that resistance to occupy his place?.

For his part, Hercules found a much lighter load in holding the weight of the firmament and thanked Atlas that break minute. But he wasn´t late in feeling obligued for responsibility to load the weight of his conscience.

Taking this step will turn out complicated:

Hercules had to leave control on Atlas´hands and incorporate to this transfer a whole world of gratitude. He gave him his pole as a gift. That shuttle which he could reach the conscience fruit with.
Atlas took it and surrounded all the Earthsphere with it, melting into each other´s arms. In that moment the division between Heaven and Earth completed. Such beauty made him gaze at his work with pride and, through the horizon, he remembered Hercules. They would be friends forever!.

What a show Atlas´face touched with his own image!. What innocence the one of Hercules´gazing that show!.
Look with me at that man, sitting in the centre of the horizon, in the centre of that line that could be a funambulist´s balancing pole looking for a balance point where glaze his true story from, to tell it to the Gods.

You´ll know that the Gods, in this world, just whisper. When they want to talk to us directly, they take us with them. Our lives interest them so deeply that they want, each and every time, to listen to us. That´s why each one of us repeat, time after time, his character in the human play for the pleasure of making them a summary in eternity clef.
Every human being carries inside his quiver that eternal minute where he can find out who the author of everything written is from.

Gods always have the last word: and “that´s all there is and there is something more”.

No importa.

ZEUS AND IVY

You would say that Zeus misses us and would like to take us with him in his cosmic egg. It´s not time yet!. Ivy would cry at him ( she always cried at him ) and, for making us sure down here, he ordered Aracne to Knit a conquest that tied us with the same desire that knitter had, of getting out of the divine temper. And it wasn´t enough!.
For us not to look at heaven, he asked Uranus to play the painter. He agreed with good grace and, with just a compliment, made the Earth blush, getting its best colours. What did he do?. So much beauty got the opposite: to get us even more enthusiastic, and miss the lofty.
She wanted, then, to disguise the lofty and trained the idea of raining without noticing how Zeus, to whom the yearning was unbearable, slided in every drop of water.
As he was a god, and a god comprises everything, he occupied the oceans, and this took its time. He ordered the mermaids to discover Ivy and, when the sea was fertilized, he got closer to wake her up with a kiss. She liked  it much and we, women, liked him to change his mood. To celebrate it, we used our intuition up spreading welcomes.
The harvest was so hugh that all the human beings, no one less, had to lend a hand in it… hunting ideas… sharing kisses out… talking… looking… dancing… fighting… dreaming… singing. In short, living.
From then on, we wait for the play to repeat: for Zeus to kidnap us and for Ivy to prevent him from it, but they´re old enough to come and go and they´re tired.
It doesn´t matter.
We light a fire, prepare a bit of soup and tell them, time after time, near the fire, how they did to become gods. And so we see ourselves in every touch of everything and, when they sleep, we´ve got Tagore.
